Without any real numbers, that figure and the according explanations mean nothing. Anyway, I see the general idea behind and I agree to a certain extent. Getting things done under Windows can be more expensive. Be it the time which has to be invested in order to find a freeware solution for more or less trivial tasks or investing money in commercial software solutions for stuff which is properly supported right out of the box on Linux machines.
A small example: I tried to find a WebDAV tool for Windows XP a couple of years ago, since the Windows-internal support is really an unstable mess. Unfortunately there were no free tools available and commercial solutions started at something around 60 bucks, or so. Under Linux/KDE it's just a matter of typing "webdav://..." as an URL into Konqueror's address bar.
This is one of many gripes I experienced with Windows and which made me turn away from it; as a Windows user you have to pay for many things, and you're actually used to it and you expect to pay even for the simplest applications you can think of.
Admittedly, there are many applications out there which are worth being paid for. And that's an area Windows has still the edge.

Okay, got it. Using Windows and living in a "Charles-Manson-crazy" neighborhood justifies being an ignorant jerk.

Putting up such a kind of correlation is a nice feast for yellow press and media. I bet that researcher didn't put these figures or the interpretation of these that strong in his publication.
Anyway, it is interesting that the believers' comments under that article are riddled with grammar and spelling errors. That's something superficial, though. More important are the childishly hurt reactions and intimidation attempts by saying that God would punish those academic "God haters".
But back on topic: I think this study is just a one-way-oberservation, which cannot be reversed to a statement like: "If you are a believer, you are less intelligent". It's just the other way around. Academics are usually intelligent people. Since there is no scientific or observable proof for God's existence, a scientific mindset makes you come to the conclusion that there is no God (at least in a sense as characterized by holy scriptures). However, if there was a convincing, scientific proof, scientists would easily change their opinion. It is as simple as that.

Hey torosar, I just did my research and found an article which proves your point wrong: 3sat.de/nano/news/106854/index.html [3sat.de/nano/news/106854/index.html]
Unfortunately it's in German, but I'm sure you know "how to research" a translation of it.
